by | Mar 7, 2024 | Walking Tour

Berlin is among the cities famous for active and various street murals. It boasts sidewalk art, murals and graffiti as a result of talented artists and artists at heart that inhabit it. For anyone who would like to take a closer look at Berlin’s street art we have prepared an extensive map of walking to lead you through some of the most interesting places. Put on your comfortable shoes, your camera and let’s enter the amazing universe of Berlin street art!

1. The East Side Gallery

This I believe deserves ahome page especially for any art lover who has a special interest in street art. This is an outdoor exhibition space-a former no-man ’s-land in front of the Berlin Wall running along a longer or shorter segment- where over one hundred murals by different artists from all over the world have been painted. Inasmuch as each mural captures a storyline, it makes the structure a befitting monument to the cause of peace and freedom. Make sure to follow the gallery to check the picture and the general history of the Berlin Wall slowly.

2. Kreuzberg

Kreuzberg is probably one of the few areas that participates most in the street art revolution. They are livelier with every hue and fashion which would be exhibited on the streets. Begin your tour of street art at Oranienstraße where you will find huge wall paintings and also some smaller less conspicuous ones. From there move around the neighbouring streets in search of amazing art that world acclaimed artist such as ROA of Belgium and El Bocho of Mexico have painted at the front of.

3. Teufelsberg

If you want to find individual street art, then go no further than Teufelsberg. On the top of a former listening station during the Cold War you will find this incredible graffiti as well as a great view of Berlin. Take an organised tour to learn more about the past of the area and get inspired by artists who turn the place into an art lovers’ heaven.

4. Urban Nation Museum

Schöneberg – Street art connoisseurs can’t help but visit the Urban Nation Museum. The museum showcases both indoor and outdoor exhibitions, with works from local and international artists. Discover the gallery’s constantly growing collection and be impressed by the broad variety of styles and techniques represented. Oh yes, do not take pictures without capturing some of the colourful artworks painted on the outer walls of the museum!

5. Friedrichshain

Another district that is famous for the rich street art is Friedrichshain. Begin your journey in RAW-Gelände – an artistic and cultural station originally built as train-repairing yard. Painting are displayed at the walls and new paintings are put up quite often. After leaving RAW-Gelände move to Simon-Dach-Straße, you will find more murals and several bars, cafés and many other facilities.

6. Hackescher Markt

You should visit Hackescher Markt to see so much more incredible street art. The core zone with galleries, art shops and spaces for artists can also be found in this area. There are dozens of these pieces around the city; just take a walk through the courtyards and back streets and you are almost certain to come across at least one. Look out for the stencils and paste-ups by the most famous artist of them all, BLO.

7. Kunsthaus Tacheles

Sadly, Kunsthaus Tacheles shut down in 2012, but it will always be reminiscent of one of the outstanding street art locations in Berlin. There were beautiful retarded paintings on the sides of the exterior walls of this building which used to be home to artists who squatted there. While the actual building is no longer open to the public, people now can admire graffiti which appeared on the exterior of the building’s walls. To this day you could get a glimpse at what this legendary creative space looked like, so don’t miss the opportunity.

Conclusion

Here are the best pieces of Berlin’s street art which paints the picture of the city’s unique cultural flavour. Walking down the streets of Paris allows the viewer to feel the feeling of the artists who draw on the walls of this city. Please, recall that street art is an open-air form, and these places may transform within time. Don’t be complacent and be on the lookout of new art pieces and try to look for different art pieces in unfamiliar places. Take your map, your package of curiosity and embark yourselves in a tour around Berlin street arts!
